1. Children of foreigners legally employed or working in Shanghai: 

One parent’s employment or working certificate in Shanghai (foreigner’s work permit, which used to be the foreigner’s employment certificate, foreign expert certificate), one parent’s residence permit in Shanghai for more than one year (including one year), passport of one parent and school-age child, temporary accommodation permit for overseas Chinese Issued by the police station, birth certificate, and valid proof of residence in Changning District ( property ownership certificate or Shanghai real estate registration certificate, proof of registration and filing of lease agreement/contract), proof of guardianship issued by Changning District Notary Office ( this proof is limited to the case where the child does not live with his/her parents).

2. Children of foreigners holding “Shanghai Residence Permit B” and children of overseas students holding “Shanghai Residence Permit B”:

Passport of the child, the child’s birth certificate, “Shanghai Residence Permit B” of one of the school-age child’s parents or the valid “Shanghai Residence Permit for Overseas Talents” of one of the parents and the school-age child, valid proof of residence in Changning District (property ownership certificate or Shanghai real estate registration certificate, proof of registration and lease agreement/contract), and the proof of guardianship issued by Changning District Notary Office (this proof is limited to the case where the child doesn’t live with his/her parents).

• Middle School Enrollment Policies for Foreigners and Overseas Chinese

The instructions of applying to middle schools in Changning District are as follows:

1. Foreign elementary school graduates currently studying in elementary schools in Changning District can apply to middle schools in Changning District by filling out the “application form for transient foreign students continuing to study in middle schools”. Changning District Education Bureau will take their applications into consideration, according to their residential address, the quota of schools, and arrange for the foreign student to study in the public schools with the relative qualification of enrolling foreign students.

2. Foreign students who are not studying in Shanghai currently expecting to attend middle schools in Changning District need the proof that one parent is working in Shanghai or is employed (with work permit for foreigner), or the residence permit for one of the child’s parents living in Shanghai for more than one year (including one year), the passport of the child and one of the parents, the child’s birth certificate, a valid certificate of residency in Changning District, the proof of guardianship issued by Changning District Notary Office (this certificate is only for those children who do not live with their parents) to go through the registration procedures.
